Fresh, Fearless and Woke - Volume 11
“Once you become fearless, life becomes limitless”.--Unknown
Woman, mujer, mwanamke, gratë, gynaíkes, kobiety!!!!
We are women who have come a long way. We are proud of the fact that we have done the work and will not stop until justice is served. We have matured as we have dug deep into the issues that affect us personally and collectively. We are confident in what we know. At this point in the game, we know that we have the power to take matters into our own hands and be BADASSES who make miracles happen. We have been in a brutal war that was waged against us centuries ago and have been FIGHTING BACK ever since.
We are tireless warrior spirits who have tackled poverty, hunger, homelessness, Roe v. Wade, reproductive injustices, inadequate healthcare, the mistreatment of women in prisons everywhere, the killing of our children, human trafficking, sex slavery the gender wage gap, migration and illegal deportations, the lack of representation in politics, academia, the justice system, corporations and the entertainment industry. Despite all of these barriers set up against us the LOVE and DEDICATION to combat these injustices displayed by our sisters globally has allowed for us to get to a place were we can say we are FRESH, FEARLESS AND WOKE!
Momma’s Hip Hop Kitchen is committed to aggressively pushing to end violence against all who identify as women and their children as well. In the past 10 years, MHHK has witnessed fresh, fearless, and woke women present their truth as medicine for our communities. Our combined efforts to encourage each other to speak up has gotten us here and we are as woke as ever. This hip hop showcase has shown us that art as activism is IMPERATIVE and has made a positive impact. This year we are tapping into our instincts, being as charismatic and dynamic as we want to be, shifting paradigms and turning the tide in our homes and our hoods. We are unapologetic and unafraid!
Sisters, we are proud to say that we have ARRIVED! We are the doulas! We are the midwives! We are confident and ready to help birth a new world. Please join us as we journey together, celebrate and kick off International Women's Month as a fierce multi-generational community.
We can’t wait to be in your presence on Saturday, March 3, 2018 from 2 to 5pm at the Hostos Center for the Arts and Culture (Bronx, NY) for a FREE afternoon. Our showcase will be featuring female emcees, poets, b-girls, deejays, dancers, and graffiti artists who will share their testimonies through the art of hip-hop.
We love you! Come as you are! Together we are better!
